Project Summary
Forward Consultants Network led the environmental impact assessment and permitting process for a new 200-room luxury hotel complex in Cancun's Hotel Zone.
The project required specialized coastal zone studies, including erosion analysis, dune protection, and evaluation of nearby reefs. We implemented a comprehensive environmental management system including advanced wastewater treatment, solar energy, and sea turtle conservation programs.
The development incorporates bioclimatic architecture, local materials, and green roofs to minimize its ecological footprint while meeting the highest standards of luxury and comfort.
Key Project Data
- Built Area 25,000 m²
- Rooms 200 luxury suites
- Renewable Energy 40% of energy needs
- Permits Obtained 15 from SEMARNAT and PROFEPA
- Green Areas 30% of total surface
Challenges and Solutions
Coastal Ecosystem Protection
The site bordered protected mangrove areas. We designed an environmental compensation plan that included restoring 2 hectares of mangroves in another affected area, exceeding regulatory requirements.
Hurricane Resistance
The coastal location required special hurricane measures. We implemented a Category 5 certified structural design and sustainable drainage systems to handle extreme rainfall.
Water Supply
Facing water limitations in the region, we developed a rainwater harvesting and greywater treatment system that reduces municipal water consumption by 60%.
Sea Turtle Nesting Season
We coordinated construction to avoid nesting season and implemented a sea turtle monitoring and protection program in collaboration with local authorities.
Project Results
compliance with federal and local environmental regulations
reduction in potable water use through reuse systems
negative impacts on coral reefs during construction
"The Forward Consultants Network team demonstrated deep knowledge of Quintana Roo's coastal ecosystems. Their innovative approach allowed us to not only comply with all regulations but also position our hotel as a leader in sustainable tourism in the region."Maria Fernanda LopezDirector of Sustainable Development, Caribbean Tourism Group
