Project Summary

Forward Consultants Network managed the full environmental permitting process for a 150MW solar photovoltaic facility with 50MWh battery storage capacity in the Sonora Desert.

The project involved comprehensive studies of desert ecosystems, including endangered species habitat mapping, microclimate analysis, and archaeological surveys. We implemented innovative solutions to minimize land disturbance while maximizing energy production efficiency.

The facility features single-axis tracking technology, robotic cleaning systems to reduce water usage, and wildlife-friendly fencing to allow movement of native species. Our team secured all necessary approvals while maintaining the project's aggressive development timeline.

Key Project Data

  • Total Capacity 150 MW (AC)
  • Land Area 300 hectares
  • Battery Storage 50 MWh
  • Annual Production 320 GWh
  • CO2 Reduction 180,000 tons/year

Challenges and Solutions

Desert Tortoise Protection

The site contained habitat for the endangered Sonoran desert tortoise. We developed a relocation and monitoring program in coordination with environmental authorities, including the creation of a 50-hectare protected conservation area adjacent to the project.

Dust Management

To mitigate dust generation in the arid environment, we implemented an innovative vegetation preservation plan and soil stabilization measures that reduced potential particulate emissions by 75% compared to conventional approaches.

Water Conservation

In this water-scarce region, we designed a robotic panel cleaning system that uses 90% less water than traditional methods, along with a rainwater catchment system for maintenance needs.

Grid Connection

The remote location required careful routing of transmission lines to minimize environmental impact. We identified an optimal 12km corridor that avoided sensitive areas while meeting technical requirements.
